Generating an idea that could work from home was not easy at all. I really was struggling at one point and I was scrambling for ideas. I was going to do a cheese review however I worked out it wasn't going to work at all and then I was left with no ideas whatsoever. Luckily I thought about doing a sweet review which was led by the cheese review and that then went from there. Although we were supposed to have a plan B for if we were going back to college, I was so settled on this sweet review that I never created a plan B. Over time, it went from an American sweet review to a Japanese review. I had always been intrigued by the Japanese culture so I thought this would be a great idea. However, I also wanted to make it a youtube-like video, where it has a somewhat comedic value to it but the added in general youtube techniques that YouTubers do.
The planning section of this project was key, I wanted to get a box from japan so I knew I was getting genuine authentic sweets. I also wanted someone else in the video so it added to feel and meant more speakers.
To start off with the research I researched how multi-cam works and the history of it. I had to understand the basics to understand the techniques. The target audience was a key part of my research as it defined who I need to be aiming this video at and although that may be the case in every project, I was creating mine as if it was a youtube video and that meant I needed to analyse the research critically and intensively. I analysed the core of youtube to start off with. This helped me define an early foundation of what gender watches Youtube the most. To conclude the YouTuber target audience analysis it turned out men were more interested in Youtube than other genders. This helped me develop an early understanding of who I should be aiming for in this project.
I then began to narrow it down to more the topic I am actually doing, I didn't specifically look at Japanese sweet reviews as that would be too specific. But I looked at YouTubers who are very similar to what I am trying to portray but also have done food reviews in the past. The analysis of Joe Sugg and Alfie Deyes really helped me develop an idea of who I should be aiming this project towards. I analysed deeply into there audience by looking at statistics and also leads from that. I began to understand that I should be more aiming this at girls more than boys. This didn't rule out that my earlier target audience analysis of Youtube as a whole but it actually made me realise that there is such a variety of audiences in the Youtube spectrum. This then led me on to think that the target audience age should be lowered, I initially felt like the age group 18-25 would be a suitable target, however after analysing the statistics of specific YouTubers I came to the conclusion that 12-18-year-olds would be more interested in this type of video.
To further my investigation on my target audience I created a survey. My survey was a big part of my research as it helped me define who would want to watch this. I was conscious about having the age range at 18-year-olds as I felt like it could be too high. I conducted a survey deliberately aimed at 18-year-olds to genuinely see if they would watch a video like this and be engaged. I received good feedback and I felt like I had made the right choice. I wished I had inputted more questions however I had built the foundations to begin preparing to make the video and who I was going to aiming it at.
This was one of the first times I really analysed my target audience and it honestly really helped, it made me correct decisions that I had previously made and also helped me steer my project to the correct audience.
The editing phase of my project really challenged me in terms of patience and understanding how to sync sound. My plan was poor looking back on it as I wanted to add in the iPhone videos after I had edited the entire piece. I had cut so much down in the process of editing from the main camera that it became incredibly time-consuming to add in the other shots. I also wanted to only use one feed of sound and that was off my boom mic. This is because I believed that iPhone quality was poor; however, this was even more time consuming as well.
All in all, my editing went really well and I liked how I added in certain touches to enhance the project as a whole, however, I should've planned my time better and how I would execute the editing.
I thoroughly enjoyed making the project and editing it, it definitely challenged me in all aspects but it taught me the basics of multi-camera and how I should utilise it to its full potential.
Use the Fox session as a guide to prompt your reflective writing in your production page and evaluation page in the future. Why did you go for a 2-header (two presenters) if you are pitching at a female gaze? Explain in your research … show examples of two presenters (Joe Suggs is 1 presenter).

RESEARCH
Your codes and conventions of educational film is researched and interpreted and then applied to your piece. Your research activity is mature, including your secondary and then primary research.
PLANNING
This develops ideas to find a innovative and analytical solution. Going forward… your application of theory can be expanded upon. Perhaps understand gazes and conventions and consider their purpose? You have created considered production documents and experiment with techniques that develop your project ideas. You must learn to work using blogger only for your FMP.
PRODUCTION
A well structured piece. The film has good rhythm and your grasp of character/costume/mise-en-scene establishment is informed. You have evidenced reflective writing detailing the progress, successes and challenges of your shoot, as well as some screenshots of your piece and GFX manipulation.
EVALUATION
You have evidenced reflective writing detailing the progress, successes and challenges of your shoot, as well as some screenshots. You have produced a page critically evaluating the success of both your processes and finished work against the requirements and expectations of the brief. You have produced a blogger critically reflecting on your own process and techniques used within the project. Your piece demonstrates clarity and has potential to go far… as do you in production, Tom.
